Like a rolling thunder chasing the wind …
Forces pulling from the center of the earth again …
I can feel it …

From alligators to crocodiles

January 14, 2007

alligator_crocs.jpg

I’ve worn Izod shirts my entire life. Though a rocker at heart, I never dressed the part. I’ve always felt most comfortable in a beat-up wrinkled alligator shirt. I’m a preppy pig. And now I wear Crocs almost every day. I may be a technology professional working for a commercial bank, but I will always consider myself a member of the dressed-down Leisure Class.

While I’m on the subject of crocodiles, a friend sent me this YouTube video of the late Steve Irwin. What a neat guy. The croc hunter stars in this clip with a guy named Ross … not Ross from FRIENDS, not Ross Perot. Take one last guess, then check it out. It’s a good tribute, and you will laugh your ass off.

Withnail & I

Notes on this film to follow… In the meantime, watch the trailer below.

[02/12/07] Okay… I think I know what to say about Withnail & I. I liked it. It’s like that classic buddy movie where the two are inseparable, never by choice, and they’re always faced with (or creating their own) chaos. One guy is definitely more desperate and aggressive than the other. It’s a little bit like Vladimir and Estragon in Waiting for Godot, or Dante and Randall in Clerks. But as I was watching Withnail & I, this song kept going through my head—a song that I know I liked a LOT at one point in time, but at that moment I couldn’t quite place it. I finally figured it out…

The song is called “It’s a Mugs Game” written and performed by Marc Almond back in the early 80’s when he was part of the band Soft Cell. I downloaded that song tonight and listened to it again for the first time in over 20 years. FUCK—what an amazing song!

I’ll post the lyrics to “It’s a Mugs Game” in another post and link back here. Or link from here to it. Something like that.

Welcome to the newest Miranda!

January 3, 2007

This annoucement is from  my brother Alexis, his wife Sharon, and their son Marcus. They currently live in Camden, Delaware.

Hi everybody…..

Sharon had an emergency c-section and the baby is here 4 weeks early. The little fella was born Jan 3, 2006 at 4:46 pm.  Still no name yet.  He is in the NICU right now getting IV antibiotics, getting his blood sugar into normal range, and learning how to eat.  He’ll be there for a few days. He is 20 inches long and weighs 8 lbs 0.5 ounces—pretty big premie!

Sharon is doing well. Just having lots of pain and is moving very slow. She will probably be coming home Saturaday or Sunday.

Attached are a few photos….
